Traditional thai foot massage

Overview: this workshop teaches a complete thai foot massage, as offered in the salons and markets of Chiang Mai in the north, given with hands and wooden stick.  It is purely of practical nature, and works through demonstrations and practical sessions.  Its goal is for students to have a repertoire needed to give a good 45 minute foot massage. The workshop begins with a brief theoretical introduction, after which we learn how to seat the patient comfortably, how the feet are prepared for the massage, and then through warming up the feet, we progress to the massage section by section. We learn how to work the main reflex zones, energy lines with our hands and then with the foot massage stick, taking a foot at a time. In the meantime, the foot on which we don’t work rests peacefully in a warm towel.  After the treatment, we work the energy lines of the calves, and finish by talcuming the feet. The treatment has a fine, relaxing effect, guaranteeing that drowsy, half-sleeping state of mind at the end. Its a wonderful treatment, that can be given to any friend or family member in stress or anxiety.

Who do we recommend this workshop for? The material is not part of any formal therapeutic education, it can be recommended for anyone enthusiastic about thai culture, thai massage, and who wishes to learn a complete refreshing/relaxing footmassage to give to friends and family. The workshop needs no previous knowledge. For those who practice reflexology professionaly, this workshop might not offer too much new material, but might give a refreshing view on how this treatment is practiced in a culture far away.
